THIRD PRIZE Silingov Vitaliy

The design from Silingov was another design that had the potential to finish
in first. His final design was considered by many of the judges to be the most
successful at transferring the aesthetics from brand to truck.
Whilst not fully refined as an aesthetic, and perhaps not to everybody's
taste, the judges felt his final design to be a very successful translation of
the Roces brand aesthetic. Silingovs presentation also displayed his strong
skills at both sketching, and 3D modelling. Ultimately however most of the judges
agreed that his concept was very much style, with nothing shown in the way of
function.
His presentation displayed no package work to justify the form and functions.
Without this, the judges were left to only guess at the possible innovative
functions and technology which such a futuristic aesthetic could contain. It was
pointed out that a combination between Silingovs aesthetic work, and Nicholases
(second place) functional sensibility would have created a truly outstanding
design. As it is however, the styling was all we had to judge, and truck design
requires more than this.
Besides this problem though, the presentation, as with the others, was
professional and clear. The use of emotive images in the presentation really
helping to sell the aesthetic. His development sketches were also expressive and
interesting.
All of the judges wish you well in your future design career, and hope that
the prize (a feature in Commercial Motor magazine and a signed soft back copy of
Design Sketching) helps you on your
journey.
Congratulations to Silingov Vitaliy!
Of course although we had to choose only three winners, there was a lot of
other very interesting and creative work submitted. Our intention is to show
some of our other favourite ideas in future articles. Until then however, again,
congratulations to our three winners!
We would also like to hear what ideas you may have for future competition
briefs. So if you have a good idea, then please be sure to send it to,
