COMPETITION WINNERS
It has not been easy (and there has been some heated discussions believe me) but we are finally able to announce the winners of the first ever DesignerTechniques competition. Before we take a look at the winners work however, we just want to say a few words about how we judged the competition.
The purpose of the brief was to demonstrate that the design process itself is as important as the final result. As a practicing designer (and indeed as somebody hoping to get into design school) you must demonstrate that you can think quickly and broadly. Long before any vehicle design makes production the designers will have experimented with, and explored many hundreds of options and variations on the theme. This allows the design director to take control and steer the design vision in his or her chosen direction. The main judges, who were myself (Allan Macdonald) and Wayne Westerman, a designer for SAAB, as well as many of our colleagues, were asked to keep this element of the brief in mind. The brief required that we pay as much attention to the process each applicant had used, as well as the results achieved. The winners were also chosen because elements of their work were felt to serve as good examples of how to put a project together.
We really should emphasise however that the judging was VERY VERY difficult, and there were many interesting ideas and thoughts in nearly all the work. Indeed some of this work was so interesting that we have decided that we will feature it in the coming months. So even if you did not win, keep visiting, as your work may still appear! A winner had to be chosen however. So without any more introduction, please click on the images to the left to see the results.
Many thanks to all of you who entered, and we hope you will all take the time to enter our future competitions.
