DESIGN COMPETITION 2
DesignerTechniques is pleased to announce
that our second design competition is here. The last competition was a lot
of fun, and we hope to improve on its success. The brief for this
competition has again been written with the importance of sketching in mind.
Ideas, and lots of them, as well as the ability to describe them visually will
be your key to winning. This means that submitting a single
rendering....no matter how flashy and amazing will not win you any prizes here
(or when your looking for a job). So if you want to be in with a chance of winning
your share of the fantastic prizes we have arranged, be sure to get busy
sketching. For those interested you can also look at our previous
competition winners by clicking

With that in mind, DesignerTechniques wishes you all the best of luck, and we look forward to receiving and judging your entries.
ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS
The competition is open to anybody,
regardless of age or work experience. However, judging will take both
these elements into consideration. DesignerTechniques would also like to
point out that we particularly encourage entries from those of you studying, or aiming to study, car design.
THE BRIEF
When someone mentions the word travel,
there are many thoughts that can come to mind. Car journeys, flights,
trips by boat, bus tours and rail travel. In the (hopefully not too
distant) future however it is very likely that space travel will join this list.
Space tourism is already a concept that many companies are taking seriously.
The brief for this competition has been written with this new form of travel and
leisure activity in mind.
Imagine that you have travelled to the moon with four other lucky tourists.
You arrive on the moon, which is still very empty, and now you and your four
travel companions have six hours spare time. What are you going to do,
and what kind of vehicle are you going to do it in? In other words, it is
your job to design a moon recreation vehicle. In keeping with the theme of Scott Robertson's new books, one of the great prizes on offer,
the vehicle you design may be a land based one (with wheels/tracks/skids etc.), or may be an air
based one (with jets/wings etc.). The kind of vehicle and the exact nature
of its purpose is up to you. It could be a tour bus, a fast racer, a
ground survey vehicle.......anything. The brief is deliberately very open,
the important thing is you apply to
some creative thought to the concept and its design.
SUBMISSIONS
The way you submit your work is very important, as we cannot let any
incorrect submissions be considered for a winning place. So please read
the following very carefully.
To reflect the importance of the thought process, two boards of your
submission must comprise a selection of your sketches and development work.
These must show some of the exploration work you produced before your final
design, and must show a wide range of thinking. Your third board will show
your final solution. There are no restrictions on the type and quantity of
views you choose to show, but we recommend that you include at least one front
three quarter view. Remember, these boards must be in JPEG format and may
be no larger than 2000 by 1400 pixels in size. Every submission should
also comprise a short written explanation of your design,
as well as your name, age, contact e-mail, design experience and country (this
information should be in plain text, and NOT as a separate attachment as only
JPEG images will be opened).
In short,
A. Two boards showing a large range of sketching and
development work. (these will form a large part of the judging process)
B. One board showing your final solution.
C. A written explanation of your design.
E. Your name, age, contact e-mail, design experience and
country.
